EXPRESSION OF INTEREST Badminton Victoria – Regional Classics & Vic Country Subcommittee

Help shape the future of regional badminton in Victoria!

Badminton Victoria (BV) is seeking Expressions of Interest from passionate and committed members of our regional badminton community to join the Regional Classics & Vic Country Subcommittee.

This subcommittee will play an important role in supporting the continued growth of our Regional Classic tournaments, strengthening regional participation and helping identify emerging talent for the Vic Country pathway.

We are looking for individuals who understand regional badminton, are passionate about developing opportunities for players and are willing to provide practical, on-the-ground support to BV.

Purpose of the Subcommittee

The subcommittee will provide advice, local knowledge and operational support to Badminton Victoria across two key areas:

1. Regional Classic Tournaments

  • Support the planning, promotion and successful delivery of Regional Classic tournaments across Victoria.

  • Act as a local point of contact and representative to assist BV with tournament operations.

  • Provide on-the-ground assistance during events, including supporting players, officials, volunteers and tournament organisers.

  • Identify opportunities to improve tournament delivery, participation and the overall player experience.

  • Strengthen relationships between BV, regional clubs, associations and local communities.

2. Vic Country Player Pathway

  • Assist BV in identifying emerging regional talent through the Regional Classic tournament network.

  • Provide local knowledge, observations and advice regarding players who may be suitable for consideration in the Vic Country pathway.

  • Support awareness and promotion of Vic Country opportunities within regional clubs and associations.

  • Provide feedback on regional player development needs and opportunities.

Important: The subcommittee will operate in an advisory capacity only and will not be responsible for selecting Vic Country teams. Formal selection responsibility will remain with the Badminton Victoria Performance Committee (BVPC), with final selections ratified by the Badminton Victoria Board.

Committee Structure and Commitment

The subcommittee will be led by Ross Smith, Badminton Victoria's High Performance Manager, with support from the BV team.

Members will be expected to:

  • Attend three scheduled committee meetings annually, held in February, April and July (online where practical).

  • Provide constructive advice and regional insights.

  • Be available, where possible, to assist with the delivery of Regional Classic tournaments.

  • Act as a positive representative of Badminton Victoria and promote collaboration across the regional badminton community.

  • Maintain confidentiality and declare any potential conflicts of interest, particularly regarding player identification and pathway advice.

Who Should Apply?

We welcome Expressions of Interest from individuals involved in regional badminton, including club and association representatives, coaches, tournament organisers, volunteers and other community members.

Previous committee experience is not essential. We are particularly interested in people who bring local knowledge, practical experience, strong relationships and a genuine commitment to growing badminton across regional Victoria.

BV will aim to achieve broad geographical representation across regional Victoria.
