ABOUT BADMINTON VICTORIA
Badminton Victoria Inc. is the peak body for the sport of Badminton in Victoria. Affiliated with Badminton Australia, it leads and develops the sport of badminton across the state in partnership with our members (affiliated associations, clubs and commercial venues).
Badminton Victoria has a rich history dating back to 1932, and currently boasts the most number of affiliated members and the most number of registered participants in Australia. We currently have a strong competition/events calendar and an ever-growing participation base.
Key functions of Badminton Victoria include overseeing the needs of the membership, managing the calendar of events including major tournaments that are critical to the organisation, development and implementation of participation programs which is largely funded by the Victorian Government. It also oversees participation, the facilitation of coach and technical official education and the growth of the sport in Victoria in general.
Badminton Victoria has a small group of key staff who are based in Melbourne and operate from the office located at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC).
EXECUTIVE GENERAL MANAGER
The Executive General Manager (Executive GM) in conjunction with the Board sets the vision for the organisation is responsible for the development and execution of the Badminton Victoria’s strategy required to realise the vision. To achieve this, the Executive GM is required to ensure the effective operation of the organisation including growing the membership base, supporting our members, raising additional funds for operations, maintaining strong and visible presence amongst key stakeholder groups, building a strong resource base and promoting ongoing growth and sustainability. The Executive GM must lead by example in promoting the sport of badminton throughout Victoria, working co-operatively with our members and in upholding the organisation’s values.
The Executive GM will build positive and effective working relationships with our members, government bodies, other state sporting bodies, whilst providing high-level representation to current and potential partners, sponsors and stakeholders. The Executive GM will also engage with the board committees on matters relating to governance and the strategic plan and will collaborate with the Badminton Victoria Committees on matters relating to their areas of interest.
To be considered for this role you will have strong experience in a strategic leadership role, ideally in a leadership role from within a sports environment. You will be a dynamic leader with a proven track record in managing and growing like-sized businesses, budgets and resources, with the ability to manage the day-to-day business operations whilst maintaining a focus on the long-term strategic priorities.
Your commercial and financial acumen will successfully deliver against strategic objectives whilst building strong networks and relationships across a wide range of stakeholders. You will have a proven track record of driving business development including securing and managing funding, commercial and/or sponsorship contracts and developing stable and diverse revenue streams.
A background in badminton is not required; however, you must have an understanding of state sporting organisations requirements and be committed to providing strong foundations for the growth and success of badminton throughout Victoria.
