Badminton Victoria wishes to announce the appointment of Cynthia Tam and Bhavi Desai to the Board of Management.
At the 2019 BV AGM, Cynthia was elected unopposed to join the Board with the departures of long-serving Board Members Val Nesbitt OAM and Kay Coady. Cynthia is an Oceania Accredited Umpire and mentor to new and developing technical officials having represented Western Australia as a player in junior and senior State Teams from 2007 to 2014. Having commenced technical officiating career in 2010, Cynthia has represented Australia as a technical official at a range of international tournaments including the Sudirman Cup, Commonwealth Games, Australian Open, New Zealand Open, Macau Open, Singapore Open and German Open.
Cynthia is committed to combining her studies in sport science and law to aid in progressing badminton in Victoria, as well as promote technical officiating as an alternative way of showing continuous support for the sport.
To fill the vacant position available at the 2019 AGM, the BV Board conducted a recruitment process to find a suitably qualified candidate to join the Board earlier this year. We were encouraged by the number of applications and thank all the applicants for their interest.
We welcomed Bhavi Desai to the BV Board in July 2019 and we hope to draw from the wealth of knowledge and experience in sales and marketing industry having fulfilled a range of executive management roles with Public Transport Victoria, BP Australia and GNC Group consulting. Bhavi is also an active member and social player at the Bacchus Marsh Badminton Club, where he was involved in the grassroots development and community engagement at all levels in ensuring the club builds towards a sustainable future for badminton in the area which includes Melton, Caroline Springs and Ravenhall.
Bhavi is committed to providing the support required at Board level in working towards the development of a high-performance culture for players of all ages and the State Teams. Driving collaboration and developing relationships with diverse communities is a passion for him, to listen to the challenges and successes of members to create a sustainable solution and provide guidance to the Board in assisting to grow our sport at the grassroots level.
Bhavi and Cynthia join Rochelle Liyanage (President), Peejade Cheng (Finance Director), Peter Brown, Gillian Patmore and Brandon Olver on the board of Badminton Victoria.
