BV Para Badminton Development Squad
Unlock your potential
The BV Para Development Squad marks a new beginning for para badminton in Victoria, creating our first dedicated high-performance para training programme. The aim of the squad is to coach our most talented para players to help them to shine at both national and international level. With badminton now a part of the Paralympics, the development squad will also serve as a step on the pathway to selection and training as part of the Australian Paralympic team.
The squad will initially comprise of 8 players, training every two weeks, and will be led by experienced coach Veevian Chong. Veevian has previously represented her home country of Malaysia, competing at national and international level. Selection to the squad will be on the basis of merit and potential, and players will be expected to commit to regular attendance and adherence to development plans. Selection to the squad will be done annually, with opportunities for players to join the squad at other times if they show potential. This will be subject to overall squad numbers.
Commencement of the squad is planned for mid-January, dependent on Covid19 requirements. The venue for training has not been finalised, and will be determined by player, coach and BV input. Nominations are open now for selection. Costs are also to be finalised, and will be advised before commencement of training.
Please note that nominations are open only to members of a BV affiliated club. If you are not a member of a BV affiliated club, please check our Where to Play page to find a club near you.
