On 28th October 2025, Ballarat proudly hosted the Feathered Friends session, a community initiative that fosters friendships, inclusion, and wellbeing through badminton. Funded and supported by Scanlon Foundation, the event brought people together for a day filled with creativity, laughter, and connection.
The event began with an arts and crafts activity where participants expressed their creativity by painting and spray painting on a white shirt. The atmosphere was bright and cheerful, with everyone chatting, laughing, and sharing ideas as they designed their colourful creations. Afterward, participants headed to the badminton courts for some friendly games, where the fun continued.
Many attendees shared that they had a fantastic time, enjoying the opportunity to play badminton, socialise, and meet new friends. The session was filled with smiles and energy, with both juniors and seniors joining in. The mix of ages created a warm and welcoming environment that truly reflected the spirit of the program.

The Ballarat Feathered Friends event showcased how badminton can be more than just a sport, serving as a bridge for community connection and friendship. It was a celebration of inclusion, creativity, and active living.
A big thank you to Jordan from the Ballarat Badminton Club for leading and supporting this wonderful event and helping bring the local community together.
Due to the program’s success, Feathered Friends badminton sessions will continue to run weekly until December, held on Tuesdays from 5.00–6.00pm, thanks to the generosity of the Ballarat Badminton Association, who are keeping the program free for all participants.
Ballarat is also running an All Abilities Program, providing more opportunities for everyone to get involved, stay active, and enjoy badminton in a supportive and inclusive environment. The program runs every Wednesday from 3.00–4.00pm, with sports wheelchairs available for use.
