2025 Distinguished Service Awards & Perpetual Trophy Winners

Yesterday at the Badminton Victoria 93rd AGM, we celebrated the incredible individuals who defined our 2025 season. A massive congratulations to the winners of:



Distinguished Service Awards

Debbie Van Der Peet - For 25 years of service (East Gippsland Badminton Assoc.)

Debbie is the treasurer at East Gippsland Badminton Association, a role she has held for 25 years. She always takes the time to play with and encourage new players and is often one of the first friendly faces to welcome them to the club.

Debbie has also held several committee positions at clubs she was involved with prior to moving to East Gippsland. She is a committed, long‑standing member of the badminton community, and her dedication continues to strengthen the association.


Perpetual Trophy Winners:

Shrey Dhand - Ern Harding Memorial Trophy (Best Male Performance)

  • Winner of the Oceania Junior MS,
  • Winner U19 National Championships MS,
  • Selected for the Australian Sudirman Cup Team,
  • Selected for the Australian World Juniors Team,
  • World Junior Teams and MS Semi-finalist at the Oceania Championships.

Gronya Somerville - Robert Bruce Maxfield Perpetual Trophy (Best Female Performance)

  • Runner-up at the Roketto Sydney International WD,
  • Round 32 at the World Championships WD,
  • Quarter-finalist at the KFF Singapore Badminton Open WD,
  • Selected for the Australian Sudirman Cup Team,
  • Runner-up at the Polish Open WD, and
  • Winner at the Oceania Championships WD and XD

Louisa Ma - H. Roy Brady Memorial Trophy (Court Demeanour & Attitude)

Louisa consistently demonstrates grace, humility, and outstanding sportsmanship, regardless of the result on court. Having represented Victoria with distinction from her junior years through to her senior career.

Louisa is admirednotonly for her skill, but for her character and quiet strength. She is a wonderful role model for our sport, and a most deserving recipient of this award.

Mischa Ginns - Kay Coady Trophy (Best Para Performance)

  • A triple win in the Para National Championships for WH1/2 combined WS, WH1/2 WD, and WH1/2 XD.
  • Medalling in multiple international para tournaments including Japan, Spain, Wales, and Dubai.
  • Gold medals in Bendigo for Mixed Doubles at both the Oceania Para Badminton Championships and the Australian Para Badminton International with Western Australian Lochan Cowper.

Chen Qiu - Paul Tyrrell Trophy (Most Improved Junior Boy)

  • Winner of the U15 National Championships in BS and BD,
  • Semi-finalist of the Victorian Open MS,
  • Runner-up at the U17 National Championships BD, and
  • BD Winner in 3 tournaments (out of 4) of the Victorian U17 tournaments.

Wanjiao Luo - Julie McDonald Trophy (Most Improved Junior Girl)

  • Runner-up at U15 National Championships GD,
  • Semi-finalist at the Junior Circuit 7 U15 GS,
  • Winner at the Junior Circuit 6 U17 GS and GD, and
  • Runner-up at the U15 State Titles GS.

Reikken Lydra - Sanderson Spirit Trophy (Junior Court Demeanour & Attitude)
His exceptional leadership skills came to the forefront during the U17 National Championships where he was willing to do whatever was needed to help the team and support the coach.

With his positive and determined attitude, he was a reliable source of confidence for the whole Victorian team during those championships.


Badminton Victoria extends its sincere gratitude to all our winners, nominees, and the broader community.
