Victorians win Australian National Championships and Ede Clendinnen Shield 2019

Victorians once again dominate the Australian National Championships and Ede Clendinnen Shield - Badminton Australia Teams event in 2019.

Congratulations to all our Victorian Shuttlers on their great results! We also thank our Team Officials on their support in the lead up and during the championships: Peter Brown, Rochelle Liyanage, Nalin Nanayakkara, Ravi Nandan, Matthew Chau and Joel Findlay.

Stellar individual performances in the Australian National Championships lead to a Victorian win in every discipline of the individual events.

Highlights included the an All-Victorian Men's Singles Final with Jacob Schueler winning his first national title and beating Peter Yan in an exciting 3-game match. Yingzi "Jenny" Jiang also caused a stir, defeating 2016 Olympian, Hsuan-Yu "Wendy" Chen in the Women's Singles, levelling their current head-to-head record 1-all.

Multi- Commonwealth Games athlete Gronya Somerville continued her winning streak from the VICTOR Badminton Oceania Championships 2019 by repeating her double crown in the Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles at the Australian National Championships 2019. In the Men's Doubles, Matthew Chau's relatively new partnership with fellow Victorian resident, Ming Chuen Lim proved successful, winning the national title as well.

Honourable mentions go to Consolation Winners Maya Grills (Women's Singles and Doubles) and Grace Hanratty (Women's Doubles).

After successful individual results, our Victorian Players competing for State Teams were under pressure to follow up with more success. In particular, the Victoria Smashers State Team had a streak of multiple championship titles to defend.

We are pleased to announce that our Victoria Smashers have once again won the Ede Clendinnen Shield and that our other state team, the Victoria Strikers won the Bronze. Congratulations to both teams on a great result!
