Badminton Victoria has 2x positions available for the Media and Events Internship in January and February 2019.
The internship will be based around the international sporting event, the VICTOR Oceania Badminton Championships 2019, to be held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) on 11-17 February 2019. The event will be co-hosted by Badminton Victoria with Badminton Oceania, supported by Badminton Australia and sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation.

The role is based at the Badminton Victoria office and Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC).

Badminton Victoria is the peak governing body for Badminton in Victoria with over 70 members (clubs, associations and venues) – making up over 7000 registered participants in the sport throughout the state. We support our members to govern and promote the sport and related events, grassroots development and elite athlete pathways. Amongst our members, there are more than 7000 people who participate in Badminton throughout Victoria.
There are currently 3 full-time staff members who are responsible for daily operations at the Badminton Victoria office aligned to the Strategic Plan. The Badminton Victoria office is based in MSAC, Albert Park and operates on weekdays during 9AM-5PM. Badminton Victoria is governed by an Executive Board of 7 people and a member of the national body Badminton Australia. In turn, the national body is a member of Badminton Oceania and the Badminton World Federation.
VICTOR OCEANIA BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019
The Oceania Badminton Championships is an annual event sanctioned by Badminton Oceania and Badminton World Federation. This year’s event will include Team and Individual components for both Open level and Junior (Under 19) events, making it one of the largest Oceania Championships in recent years. The event is a key selection event for some national badminton teams, therefore attracting the best athletes from the 15 Member countries and territories in the Oceania confederation: Australia, New Zealand, Norfolk Island, Fiji, Samoa, Tuvalu, Tahiti, Tonga, Kiribati, Nauru, Soloman Islands, Northern Marianas, Cook Islands, Guam and New Caledonia.
The newly created internship program is designed to provide opportunities for successful candidate to work with various levels in the sports industry. Moreover, the successful candidate will gain real world work experience supporting the co-ordination and management Badminton Victoria’s media channels and assist administration and operations for the VICTOR Oceania Badminton Championships 2019.
The role will include managing both the functionality and content on a day to day basis, communicating regularly with the Badminton Victoria community through digital means (website, e-newsletter, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or other relevant platforms) to ensure they are well informed as to what is happening leading up to and during the event.
The successful candidates will work closely with Badminton Victoria, Badminton Oceania and other event stakeholders to ensure quality event delivery, positive player experiences and event sustainability. This will involve supporting pre-event planning, marketing, on-site event assistance, online streaming production and events communications through relevant platforms.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
The position is suited to a tertiary student or graduate in marketing, media, communications, public relations, professional writing, events or sports management.
High attention to detail with the ability to prioritise workload
Initiative and personal drive
High levels of competency in English – spoken and written
Can work and deliver within deadlines
Qualifications and experience in marketing, media, communications, public relations, professional writing, events or sports management
Graphic design skills
Sports photography skills
Experience with website management and maintenance
Experience and a high level of competency working with online media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, MailChimp)
Experience in video production
Experience in event management and delivery
Familiarity with the rules and regulations of international badminton events
Familiar with the sport and world of badminton
The preferred candidates should fit in well in a relaxed and dynamic work environment.
Badminton Victoria will provide meals for the successful candidates while onsite over the period of 9th – 17th February 2019.
